All of Tanzania’s parks are special, different in landscape and wildlife and some offer excellent cultural experiences !
You will find stunning beach destinations such as Zanzibar, Pemba, Mafia & Mnemba Island !
All our itineraries feature a Map and the distances from one Park to another.
Pace yourself ! Distances in Tanzania are VAST ! Take your time exploring the country ! Rather visit only 2 – 3 parks and enjoy them fully IF you haven’t got the time or budget to stay for a longer trip. Each park is unique and has wonderful attractions to offer. “Pole Pole” (Slowly / Slowly) is synonymous with East Africa and this is very true for Tanzania.
It is It is important to check on what budget you have available, the number of days you can travel and the destinations you choose. If you go for the North, you may want to combine a ROAD Safari with a one way flight out of the world famous Serengeti Game Reserve ! If you travel SOUTH, it is best to fly all the way ! Driving is possible too in the South but road conditions are rather poor into most Game Reserves and National Parks. The Southern Parks are usually less frequented and more expensive whilst the Northern Parks host most tourists and the famous Ngorongoro Crater that everyone wants to see and experience ! We recommend a minimum of 7 – 10 days for a Safari to the North and about 10 days for the South for 2 – 3 parks maximum.
Tanzania is a great destination to visit all year round but if you’d like to avoid the Wet Season, we recommend travel from November March ! Jan to March is typically very dry and on occasion, low rainfall is experienced. Temperatures during the day range between 25°C and 30°C and the climate is more tropical in the coastal regions and around Arusha and the spice island of Zanzibar. The Highlands are usually much cooler and warm clothing is recommended for the cold nights at the Ngorongoro Crater ! The coldest time of year (yet with plenty of wildlife) is July and August.
A great adventure is to climb the world famous and snow capped Mount Kilimanjaro ! At 5,895 meters, Tanzania’s snow-capped Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest peak in Africa ! You will walk through five climate zones ranging from rainforest to alpine desert and eventually reach a glacier before you summit. We work with an ethical company that is approved by the Mount Kilimanjaro Porter’s Association and pays their porters a decent wage. You can climb Mount Kili all year round but best for trekking are January to March and from June to October. You should be reasonably fit and have proper equipment such as good, broken in hiking boots. You may choose between 7 main routes but we recommend Marangu, Rongai or Lemosho as the most walked and successful routes. You will need to spare about 7 days on average, depending on the route you choose. Contact us for more details !
If you’d like to get to know the country, travel by road ! You will be amazed to see the “ever changing landscape”, different National Parks & Game Reserves and most of all get to know the country itself. Driving distances are often longer and you have to be ready for partially bumpy roads but seeing the different cultures / tribes and the LIFE in the local Villages you pass makes it all worth it. The other advantage you often have is that you book a PRIVATE SAFARI where you don’t share with other guests and you travel at your own pace. Our guides are wonderful, patient, friendly, knowledgeable ! We usually recommend a road safari when you visit Lake Manyara, Tarangire National Parks, Ngorongoro Crater and the Serengeti.
Our vehicles are equipped for Photographic Safaris ! They can be converted into OPEN SIDED Landcruisers with pop-up roof hatches and side rails to place your camera on steadily. Bean Bags and steps are offered on complimentary basis. Most important is the Guide ! We do employ guides that understand a Photographer’s requirement of positioning the vehicle in the best light, are patient and ready to stay out in the bush all day if required.
Whilst we usually discourage self-drive, it is a possibility and you can contact us for more details on rates / which vehicles are available ! It is advisable to pre-book camp sites in case you prefer the adventure of ground / roof top camping. We DO NOT recommend self-drive Safaris / vehicle hire for “first time visitors” and encourage only guests who know East Africa and its road conditions well as well as good experience on a 4 x 4 vehicle before you attempt to do so. Camp sites are usually not comparable with standards and services provided in Europe or overseas ! Public camp sites have toilet and washroom facilities but Special Camp Sites don’t ! The difference is that although Special Camp Sites are usually more expensive, they are exclusively booked for your stay whilst you are sharing your space on Public Camp Sites.
We know Tanzania well ! We work with a small operator who owns their own vehicles, maintained in their in-house workshop and has fairly treated, permanent driver/guides who will make your trip worthwhile and memorable. They are members of renowned organizations and have been in business since 2010 and we have worked with them from the start. Excellent client feedback from trips they arranged is giving us the confidence in their services !
The white sandy beaches of the Spice Island of Zanzibar, the Exclusive Mnemba Island or The Driver’s Paradise Pemba are truly inviting for anyone wishing to end a great safari with a relaxing, authentic stay on the beach. The warm waters of the Indian Ocean, the endless coral reefs and variety of sealife, the occasional shoal of dolphin make for a perfect extension of your holiday. Freshly prepared seafood, the friendly Zanzibari people or the ancient culture of Stonetown are mesmerizing !
Yellow Fever Certificates are required.
